Climate-EDU is a new climate education initiative of the National Observatory of Athens. It is implemented within the National Collaboration Programme (NCP) of the Copernicus Climate Change

Service (C3S) and brings together six organisations with different but complementary areas of expertise.

The collaboration connects scientific research with education, satellite Earth Observation, Copernicus services and the development of modern digital learning tools.

Six partners with complementary roles

National Observatory of Athens (NOA)

The NOA-ReACT team at the National Observatory of Athens coordinates the project and builds on its experience in developing the national information hubs ClimateHub and AtmoHub.

Through Climate-EDU, the team develops modern educational activities and digital learning experiences that make use of data, services and applications from the Copernicus programme.

National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)

The Laboratory of Climatology and Atmospheric Environment of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment at NKUA contributes to the design and integration of educational material into undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes.

Particular emphasis is placed on the training of future teachers and on the development of modern teaching approaches to climate change.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH)

The Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics of the Department of Physics at AUTH contributes its extensive experience in atmospheric sciences and education.

Its role includes supporting the development and pilot implementation of educational modules based on Copernicus data.

Academy of Athens

The Research Centre for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology of the Academy of Athens strengthens the scientific dimension of Climate-EDU.

Drawing on its long-standing research experience in atmospheric sciences, climatology and the impacts of climate change, it contributes to ensuring the scientific accuracy and quality of the educational material.

Hellenic Space Center

The Hellenic Space Center (HSC) connects the initiative with the field of Earth Observation and with the needs of public-sector organisations.

Within Climate-EDU, it supports the development of educational and training activities aimed at public administration and professional users of Copernicus services.

i.D.Com

i.D.Com supports the digital dimension of Climate-EDU.

It contributes to the development of the Climate-EDU platform and its online educational services, with the aim of providing a modern, functional and accessible learning environment.

From scientific knowledge to educational practice

The strength of Climate-EDU lies in bringing together different fields of knowledge and experience.

Research, higher education, climatology, atmospheric sciences, satellite Earth Observation, public administration and digital technologies come together in a shared effort to transform Copernicus data and services into learning tools that can be used in education and professional training.

Through the development of educational material, courses, MOOCs, summer schools and awareness-raising activities, Climate-EDU aims to strengthen climate literacy and broaden the use of Copernicus data in Greece.
